A Soulful Session on ‘Music & Meditation’ by Nirmalights at VESIM campus

Vivekanand Education Society Institute of Management (VESIM) Business School, one of the leading B Schools in Mumbai hosted Nirmalights – a European Music Group, which enthralled the students of VESIM with their scintillating musical performance.

Nirmalights was formed as a live performance group in Italy in 2015. An ensemble of young talented musicians, the Group’s repertoire ranges from Bhajans to Qawwali, played with both traditional and western instruments: harmonium, dholak, tabla, acoustic guitar, keyboard and electric bass. The members of the group have all come together through their practice of Sahaja Yoga Meditation. Sahaja Yoga is a simple, time-honored Meditation technique that helps reduce stress and improve wellness. It is practiced by millions of people in over 100 countries and is always offered free of charge.

Commenting on the event, Dr. Satish Modh, Director, VESIM B School said, The Event was an inspiration for Management Students of VESIM Business School. More than 15 Students from Italy, Germany and Ecuador sang Ganesh bhajans and Vande Mataram in perfect Hindi and in Hindustani Ragas. Their love for India and Indian Culture was Infectious.

The program started with rendition of ‘Tat Kim’ – a Sanskrit bhajan, followed by two Hindi and a Punjabi traditional bhajan amidst great cheer, clapping and applause by the audience. The concert ended with Vande Mataram which left the people spellbound. The group demonstrated Sahaja Yoga meditation technique as well as led a guided meditation session. They also shared some key secrets to awaken dormant divine energy within each of us, connecting our consciousness to God’s all-pervading power of love.

Sara, Singer, Nirmalights said ‘Most of us are practicing Sahaja Yoga Meditation for over last 10 years without missing it even for a single day and now, it has become a routine for us.’ The Music team expressed their deep gratitude to Dr. Nirmala Srivastava for introducing them to rich Indian culture and spirituality. Dr. Nirmala Srivastava, who founded Sahaja Yoga in 1970, had been a freedom fighter, and worked closely with Mahatma Gandhi. She was twice nominated for Nobel Peace Prize and received numerous international awards.

The concert was a great musical and spiritual experience, involving the audience through music and meditation.  Through joyful upbeat melodies and slow-paced introspective compositions, the session led the listeners through the inner discovery of oneself. Students who attended the session gave raving review and said they thoroughly enjoyed the music and meditation and asked for more.

As an ensemble of young talented musicians, the Nirmalights are inspired by great Qawwali masters such as Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Fareed Ayaz, the Sabri Brothers, and other traditional Pakistani and Indian composers. Their repertoire ranges from Qawwalis to Bhajans and Ghazals, played with both traditional and western instruments: harmonium, dholak, tabla, acoustic guitar, keyboard and electric bass. Their concerts are musical and spiritual experiences in which the power of Qawwalis and the depth of Sufi poetry are woven together by eastern and western harmonies, involving the public through dance and meditation. Their concerts, through joyful upbeat melodies and slow-paced introspective compositions, lead the listeners through a double journey into the external discovery of a global culture and the inner discovery of oneself. Born as a live performance group, the Nirmalights are working on their first studio album project called ‘Nirmal Darbar’ meant to be released in 2019.
