“LEGOLORDS” wins Gold at WRO Delhi NCR Regionals to qualify for Nationals of World Robot Olympiad India 2017


Greater Noida Team LEGOLORDS won Gold in the Regular Junior High Category at the regionals of the World Robot Olympiad India 2017 held at Lancers International School, Gurgaon on 2nd and 3rd Sept 2017. The World Robot Olympiad India (WRO India) is one of the largest robotics competition in India and worldwide for students in age group 9- 25 years. In the Regular Junior High category, challenge was to build and program an autonomous robot that can help a company reach Carbon Neutrality. To accomplish this, the robot must install renewable energy sources, like solar panels, and plant trees to counterbalance the emissions from the industrial processes of the company.

Team LEGOLORDS won the 1st prize winning Gold Medal and a trophy scoring total 420 points out of 430 points. The other team BRAINSTORMERS also qualified for Nationals securing 6th position at Delhi-NCR Regionals. National Championship will be held on 7th -8th October 2017 at Genesis Global School, Noida.

Team LEGOLORDS was represented by Rohan Singh, Class 9, DPS Greater Noida and Akshad Gajbhiye, Class 8, Cambridge School, Greater Noida. Team BRAINSTORMERS was represented by Vidit Agrawal, Class 9, DPS Greater Noida, Sayak Ray, Class 9, Lotus Valley International School, Noida and Shail Shah, class 7, Jaypee Public School, Greater Noida. The teams were mentored at Technomentis Edu Services’ tinkering lab Explorato, Technomentis Edu Services in Greater Noida.

The competition is two day event, where first day is practise day and second day is day long competition day. Second prize in Regular Junior High Category was bagged by Delhi team and third prize by team from Genesis Global School, Noida. The regional event saw participation from approximately 70 teams across Delhi NCR.

Ms Astha Sharma, Founder – Technomentis Edu Services, company which works in STEM Education to foster innovation in students, highlighted that this success was result of over 200 hours of consistent effort, hard work and dedication of teams and mentors over the last three months. This Olympiad is very different from pen and paper Olympiads, as they focus on practical learning, execution and real- life problem solving. Last year also, their team ROBONAUTS won the Delhi-NCR Regionals at 8th position in Regular Elementary Category and competed at WRO India 2016 Nationals. These events are very crucial in building practical knowledge and deeper understanding of latest technologies like Robotics which will be defining factor in future workspaces.

The awareness and excitement about such events is increasing rapidly in India. Held since 2006, it is jointly organised by the India Stem Foundation and the National Council of Science Museums.
