International Conclave on Higher Education to transform Quality, Innovation and Governance


Gandhinagar, October 18, 2016: An International Conclave on Higher Education was organized as part of the run-up to Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2017 by the state government at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar on 18th October 2016. With the objective of ‘Transforming Higher Education (Quality, Governance, Innovation)’, this conclave brought together multiple stakeholders across government, academia, industry, thought leaders and student community through comprehensive discussions to arrive at a way forward for higher education.


In addition to some of the industry experts from various part of the world, the conclave was attended by Hon. Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Vijay Rupani; Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Nitin Patel;
Hon. Minister of Education, Government of Gujarat, Shri Bhupendrasinh Chudasama; Smt. Anju Sharma, Principal Secretary Education Department, Government of Gujarat; Mr. Geoff Wain, Deputy High Commissioner, UK Deputy High Commission; Mr. Toni Huber, Consul General, Australian
Consulate-General; H.E Mr. Peter Taksoe-Jensen, Ambassador of Denmark to India.


Addressing the conclave, Hon. Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shi Vijay Rupani said “This conclave will play a key role in setting up Gujarat as a knowledge hub in India. Gujarat has always been a frontrunner in setting up specialized education institutions, with an aim to make traditional education more employment orientated. Through such Pre-Vibrant Gujarat events, we aim to establish Gujarat as a knowledge economy to cater to the world’s demand. We are committed to invest in the education sector and today five MoUs have been signed in the education sector and I am hopeful many more MoUs & partnership will be signed during the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2017. The State Government is committed to support the youth in the area of innovation & technology and our policies are conducive to build up startup & innovation culture among the youth.”


Improving employability quotient in the current global context being the biggest challenge for Indian higher education system, the conclave aimed at identifying new ways and technology in which quality can be enhanced. The discussions during the conclave were also aimed at understanding the best practices of the governance system which may help every academia comprehend its full potential. Moreover, the Government of Gujarat is also aiming at identifying ways of developing an ecosystem to foster innovation to help turn student’s research into productive business model.
